Catch up (July)

Been keeping my head down, and staying busy with work lately. So, here's a bit of catch up, and a look at some books that have just come out, about to come out, or will be out in the next couple of weeks. First up is The First X Men #1, which is out next Wednesday (7/26). There's a preview of the first few pages over on CBR, and below is just a little Wolverine and Sabertooth fighting some guys in robot suits...

Next up is a nifty little motorcycle chase scene from Secret Avengers #30 which was previewed in an article with writer, Rick Remender over on CBR.

And, from Image Comcis, Graveyard of Empires #4 came out last week (7/25). Written by Mark Sable and drawn by Paul Azaceta. Check out the preview here, and another page below...

Secret Avengers #29

Secret Avengers #29 comes out this week. It's written by Rick Remender and drawn by Matteo Scalera. I really enjoy coloring Matteo's work, and he's a genuinely nice guy as well. Rick on the other hand... ;)

Check out a preview over on CBR, and then check out this sweet sequence of Venom fighting a zombie Rasputin over the Kremlin...

Wonder Woman #11

Wonder Woman #11 is out this week (7/18). Here's a sequence from the issue that I particularly like. There's something about coloring mundane, everyday scenes like the main street or a doctor's office that really captivates me. I think it's because I can pull from things I notice in everyday life. Like that terrible wood paneling matched with an awful deep green/blue carpet that's not been updated in three or four decades. I mean, I've been in an office like that.

Also, I like how the scenes change, and the pace at which they shift from one to another across these three pages. From inside the outdated office, to outside on a crisp and clear (note WW's jacket) afternoon just after a rainstorm (note the fresh puddle on the ground), to an odd half lit eclipse scene. This sequence is a great example of color adding a layer to the story telling, and it sure was a blast to work on.

If you're interested in seeing the preview with words, CBR has it posted here.

The Crow #1

Fog, humidity, drizzle. This issue showed me that I really like coloring a scene when there's a lot of moister in the air.

Here's three pages from The Crow #1, which came out last week (7/11), drawn by my buddy, Kevin Colden...

Planet of the Apes: Cataclysm #2

I just saw that iFanboy posted a cover for Planet of the Apes: Cataclysm #2. Gabriel Hardman drew it and I colored it...
